The last two years of my hero’s life were spent five hours from her home in a hospital room fighting for her life. Though the treatment was grueling, the hardest part for my grandmother was being away from her family. I often wonder if her outcome would have been different if she could have received these life-saving therapies within the comfort and love of her home. While I can’t rewrite history, I do work to help transform the future of home-based care with next-generation technology.

To expand insurance benefits and covered therapies in home infusion, we need to prove the effectiveness of the provider in the eyes of the payor. How do we accomplish that? By demonstrating how patient outcomes improve when they receive care and treatment in the home. While there are industry initiatives like NHIF to capture and report on outcomes data, one of the main barriers for infusion providers is time.

With complex reimbursement guidelines and the ever-increasing cost to serve, infusion providers are forced to do more with less. For example, a recent study showed that pharmacists spend an average of more than 35 minutes completing the tasks necessary to onboard a single home infusion patient. That’s why at Brightree, we aim to automate infusion provider workflows and reduce time spent on these administrative tasks, so pharmacists can focus on what matters most: phenomenal patient care.

We’re excited to launch a series of workflow automation tools in our pharmacy software focused on these key themes:

  • Care team collaboration: It takes an entire care team—intake staff, nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, warehouse managers, drivers, billers—to onboard patients and ensure they are successful on therapy. By embedding care team collaboration into our intake and pharmacy experiences, we help your team spend less time yelling over cubicle walls and chasing information and more time on serving patients in a timely manner.
  • Personalized experiences: While it takes a team to serve the patient, each unique user has their own responsibilities, so their technology should raise visibility to what matters most to them. With our new home page dashboard, users know exactly what they need to focus on and can personalize their page for maximum visibility.  Our intake experience allows users to create persona-driven forms with required and recommended fields to ensure critical information is captured up front, helping prevent denials downstream. Our pharmacist experience was designed to reduce the time it takes to dispense.
  • Connected workflows: Disconnects between cross-functional teams can create havoc in your business. If intake doesn’t have a clear understanding of benefits up front, revenue might get missed. If pharmacy doesn’t know a prior authorization has expired, product might get wasted. If billing doesn’t have a record that a delivery has been completed, there will be delays in generating revenue. By connecting intake, pharmacy, delivery, and billing workflows in a non-intrusive manner, providers can get paid quicker.

Our software allows intake staff to stage therapies and payors for teams downstream. Pharmacy staff can quickly adjudicate NCPDP claims during dispensing and have confidence they are billing the right payors. Billers know whom to bill and when, with automatic assignment of sales orders upon delivery receipt from shipping carriers or drivers.

Technology is a non-negotiable for providers to thrive. As new tools evolve, more and more intelligence will be introduced for maximum workflow automation. Take advantage of the innovations your software provider launches to optimize your workflows and partner with technology companies that are committed to true innovation and transformation.

At Brightree, we are committed to delivering intelligent, automated, connected solutions and workflows to improve patient outcomes and move the industry forward.
